About Byzantine World
Dear visitor!
Welcome to Byzantine World. My name is Christophe, and this site is the result of a long fascination with the Byzantine Empire.
I studied medieval history, and somewhere along the way Byzantium went from one subject among many to a genuine passion. There’s something about it that’s hard to let go of: a Roman empire that spoke Greek, outlived Rome itself by a thousand years, and left behind some of the most breathtaking art and architecture of the medieval world — yet remains strangely overlooked. I created this site to give it the attention it deserves.

Everything here is carefully researched and based on reliable, often scholarly sources. My aim is simply to be accurate while keeping it enjoyable to read, whether you already know the period well or are just discovering it. Outside of writing, I enjoy visiting Byzantine sites around the Mediterranean whenever I can.
If you’d like to get in touch — to share a thought, suggest a topic, point out a correction, or just talk Byzantium with someone who finds it as fascinating as you do — I’d genuinely love to hear from you. Use the form below, and I’ll get back to you.
— Christophe
